University of Maryland, Baltimore County joins Virginia Commonwealth on SAIL roster

SAIL (Student Athlete Image & Likeness) today announced it has been retained by The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) of the America East Conference to educate their student-athletes on new NCAA Name Image and Likeness (NIL) rules that are expected to take effect in 2021.

SAIL will provide face to face education, advice and guidance about NIL through a proprietary “playbook” to help guide UMBC through this unchartered territory. Through these learnings, SAIL will help athletes understand, protect and maximize their personal brand value.

“With the expected evolution of NCAA rules regarding Name, Image and Likeness, we are proud to announce this partnership with SAIL,” said Brian Barrio, Director of Athletics at UMBC.  “We believe having a group of experienced professionals like the team from SAIL will be extremely beneficial as we provide our student-athletes with the tools to navigate NIL. Together, we will provide the UMBC community with education and guidance as we move into a new landscape for college athletics.”

SAIL is an organization formed by sports marketing companies Team Services, LLC and Maroon PR to provide expertise to schools across the country as their student athletes and athletic departments work with new NIL guidelines.  Virginia Commonwealth University of the Atlantic 10 Conference was the first to sign with SAIL for these services.

“Educating student athletes and working closely with universities athletics departments with regard to this very new and substantial development is of paramount importance,” said Fred Fried, Principal at SAIL. “We look forward to bringing our decades of experience to UMBC and we thank them for the opportunity to work closely with their leadership on this important and evolving issue.”
